'We made their life hard today'

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris speaking to Sky Sports: “Yeah, I’m enjoying [it]. I think we showed strong character against probably one of the best teams in Europe at the minute. It was important to defend well. I think we were bold because we tried to be aggressive and high up the pitch. I think we disturbed their routine, maybe their flow and it was really important. We created a few chances as well, so it was a good game. We were a bit lucky sometimes because they have so many threats and they know how to many the ball in the final third and they are really good for that, so it’s a good point.

“It’s so important in football to play two halves otherwise you can be happy after the first, and you know you have to go all the way. The scenario can change in just one moment. This team showed from the beginning of the season strong character and they can play good football, and 30 minutes later they know how to defend together, how to suffer together, and they have many faces, and I think it’s important for us.

“I think we made their life harder today to conclude, to cross, to shoot, and it was great.

“Sometimes we don’t know that we can be so good. I think it’s important to repeat these kinds of performances because it shows that we need to believe in our way of playing in our strength as well. Sometimes, when you are new in a league like the Premier League, you can say it would be too hard but with confidence, with strength, with belief, I think we can go further.”

'We don't create enough'

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank speaking to BBC MOTD: “It was very nice and very special in many, many ways. Very happy with that. It was nice to be back and nice to acknowledge things both ways and then the whistle goes and it’s business and you want to win the game.

On not creating as many chances as he would have liked: “Definitely, we don’t create enough. I think we dealt with half of the challenge here because they are very strong at home. They only gave seven shots away in the whole game so very happy with that but we didn’t create enough. The amount of unforced errors today was too big.”

On Romero’s tackle on Thiago: “I think there was that which was a 50/50 with Cristian Romero on Thiago and then there was the 50/50 penalty on Archie Gray. I think if that was given, it would not be overturned.”

On Tottenham’s away form being better than their home form: “We understand the different and difficult opponent away from home and it is linked to the amount of chances we can create and will create and we need to continually work on that.”

'We want to play better and we want to create more'

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, speaking to Sky Sports: “Two ways, tight even game. We know how good Brentford have been here at home.

“Defended excellently, a fantastic clean sheet mentality, that was the positive thing. The negative is we want to play better and we want to create more.

“The amount of unforced errors was too big.”

On transfer window: “We are definitely out there doing everything we can to see how we can improve the squad.”
